About Superstars

Superstars was a BBC television programme that originally ran from 1973 to 1985. During this time 198 sportsmen and women took part including some of the biggest names in sport. People like Joe Bugner, Jackie Stewart, Bobby Moore, Daley Thompson, Geoff Hurst and the legendary Kevin Keegan all competed to be crowned Superstars Champion.

Following a successful one off show for charity, a new series was commissioned for television in 2003. Again several top sportsmen and women competed in a number of gruelling sports and physical activities gunning for superstar status, and the show was, once again, a huge success.

Seeing all these sweaty men in shorts triggered something somewhat genius in the otherwise deluded mind of a certain John Peter Catterfeld. He decided to bring the concept a little nearer to home. Hence, in 2004 the superstars concept was used by seven friends from Harpenden as the basis for a day of friendly competition, and sporting activities, in a park in St. Albans.

Since then, it has become an annual event, and the format has been re-used and adjusted to create Winter Superstars and Superstars Judgement Day, the first ever team Superstars challenge.

Competitors have included the likes of Liam 'Thundertank' O'Sullivan, Ronan 'Pretty Boy' O'Mahony, Nick 'The Juggernaut' Clifford and Sunil 'Bling Bling' Khurshid.
